Infrastructure
The department of general cargo management operates the following warehouses for temporary cargo storage:
• WAREHOUSE G5 (Covered storage area totaling 2.050m2): In Schisto, used for the temporary storage of goods from third countries, which are transported either directly from a third country, or via another EU country through the process of transit (TIR) using various transport means, as well as Community goods for which customs formalities are required (General cargo, vehicles etc).
• WAREHOUSE G3 (Covered storage area totaling 6.300m2): In Schisto, used for the temporary storage of goods as above, but mainly for the emptying of containers arriving by ship in Piraeus. The advantages for customers both the carrier companies but mainly for the final consignee of the goods are the following:
• Lower cost of transportation from the Container Terminal to the Warehouse, due to the proximity of the premises (500m).
• Immediate evacuation of the Container and receipt of the goods because of the large storage capacity.
• Zero waiting time.
• Permanent availability of the necessary mechanical loading equipment.
• Experienced employees and workers.
• Full-IT system.
• Permanent presence of Customs officials and Plant Health Service.
• WAREHOUSE C8 (Covered storage area totaling 1.450m2): In Schisto, used for the storage of goods declared as unclaimed, which remain there until their disposal.
• EXPORT WAREHOUSE (Schisto Area): Receives goods waiting at the port until its exportation through containers.
