Corporate social responsibility and
environmental sensitivity

The respect for the environment and the control of the environmental impact of port activities, are top
priorities in P.P.A. S.A's strategy. The EYDAP's (National Greek Water and Waste Management Company)
purifi cation centre at Psytallia, the frequent air pollution measurements at the Central Port, the
installation of noise barriers and the implementation of all national and EU requirements for the protection
of the environment, are the main elements of P.P.A's environmental policy.

 

In addition, P.P.A. contributes to the preservation of
historical memory by helping to bring out the local archaeological fi ndings from the era of Themistoklis and Periklis and also provides support through sponsorships to:

• Charities and cultural events

• Non profit organizations for the support of vulnerable
social groups


For more than 70 years P.P.A. S.A. is a centre of fi nancial
growth and today continues its valuable contribution to local and national economy through a social and environmental policy fitting its history.


Environmental protection

Waste management :

• Plan for the collection and administration of ship waste

• Network for waste collection from ships and transport to the purifi cation centre in Psyttaleia

• Collection and management of waste lubricating oils from P.P.A.'s machinery

Water quality :

• Monitoring of water quality in Piraeus Port, collaboration with the University of Piraeus

• Detection and evaluation of areas in need of environmental improvement

• Studies for the administration of dangerous unpurifi ed sediments, collaboration with the National Technical University of Athens

Noise and air quality :

• Programs for the control of noise and protection of air environment, collaboration with the Aristoteleion University of Athens
