<p>Piraeus Port Authority SA (PPA SA) was first certified by Lloyd’s Register (LR) to the internationally recognised quality management system ISO 9001 and environment management system ISO 14001 in 2013 for the provision of Port Cruise Services. In 2018, the certification scope was extended to cover the provision of Port, Ferry, Ro-Ro and Container Terminal Services as well as the Management of Logistics centre and the management of port construction and maintenance projects. In 2020, the scope of certification was extended again to include a number of additional key activities with regards to the Ship Repair activities and the management of co-funded projects, such as the Cruise South Expansion Project.</p> <p>With this last extension of certification’s scope, PPA has achieved the certification as per ISO 9001:2015 & ISO 14001:2015 for all its activities:</p> <ul> <li>Provision of Port Cruise, Ferry, Ro-Ro and Container Terminal Services.</li> <li>Management of Logistics center.</li> <li>Provision of Dry Docking Services for the Repair of Vessels ( Two (2) Graving Docks at Akti Vasiliadi and three (3) Floating Docks at Perama Ship Repair Zone) and sub-concessions of berthing posts and land space for the repair of vessels (Perama Ship Repair Zone, Drapetsona Pier, DEI Pier).</li> <li>Port construction and maintenance projects management.</li> <li>Management for the Implementation of co-funded projects characterized as Public ones:</li> </ul> <p>-Technical Infrastructure Works,</p> <p>- Procurement contracts andServices.</p> <p>Also, in 2020, PPA SA achieved its initial certification as per ISO 50001:2018 standard for its energy management for all its activities.</p> <p>PPA invests in management systems recognized and applied worldwide, demonstrating its strong commitment to best practice for quality, environmental and energy management. The ultimate aim is continual improvement and operational excellence across its very broad scope of activity.</p> <p>Through the Integrated Quality, Environmental & Energy Management System that is applied in line with the standards requirements, PPA SA works in a consistent way to understand customers’ needs and expectations, continually improve the level of services provided, address the environmental challenges emerged in daily operation and improve the energy performance.</p> <p>According to <a href="/corporate-responsibility/quality-environmental-policy" target="new">PPA Quality - Environmental - Energy Policy</a> the company is committed to improving the quality of the provided services, the environmental and energy performance and setting quality, environmental & energy objectives to address risks and opportunities, significant environmental aspects and significant energy uses. These objectives are continuously monitored and reviewed.</p> <p>PPA SA has adopted new processes and procedures for considering energy performance improvement opportunities during the design of new facilities and activities, the upgrade of current facilities and the renewal and upgrade of equipment according to its Masterplan. Τhe use of alternative energy types and their deployment at the new infrastructure are also under consideration.</p> <p>Risks and opportunities are defined through systematic analysis of internal and external issues. Significant environmental aspects are defined through assessment of the impact port activities pose or may pose to the environment. <p><img src="/images/site/cruise_small.jpg" alt="Cruise" width="250" height="420" align="left" border="0" hspace="5" />The Port of Piraeus is an important destination for cruise ships in the Mediterranean Sea. It has 11 places for the simultaneous berthing of vessels and can accommodate even the largest cruise ships.</p> <p>For the purpose of servicing cruise passengers the Port operates three Passenger Terminals which host duty free shops, Tourist Police, Customs office and other essential services for the passengers.</p> <p>Nearby there is an open parking area for tourist coaches, while the transportation of passengers from the anchoring areas to the Passenger Terminal is provided for free by P.P.A SA transportation means.</p> <p>P.P.A. <p> </p> <p>PPA SA’s Ro – Ro Terminals are one of biggest hubs for transit cars for the Eastern Mediterranean, Black Sea and North Africa. <p> </p> <p>PPA SA’s Ro – Ro Terminals consists of two terminals, G1 and G2, which are located in the area of Keratsini – Drapetsona Municipality.</p> <p>The loading/unloading operations are provided into 3 shifts per day, which are the below:</p> <p>Morning shift: 07:00 – 15:00</p> <p>Afternoon shift: 15:00 – 23:00</p> <p>Night shift: 23:00 – 07:00</p> <p>Ro-Ro Terminals do not operate the following days and shifts:</p> <ul> <li>During all shifts: <ul> <li>May 1<sup>st</sup></li> <li>Easter</li> <li>December 25<sup>th</sup></li> <li>During night shift: <ul> <li>Good Friday</li> <li>Good Saturday</li> <li>December 24<sup>th</sup></li> <li>December 31<sup>th</sup></li> </ul> </li> </ul> </li> </ul> <p>All the <strong>personnel</strong> is well <strong>experienced</strong>, highly <strong>trained</strong> and skilled, with specialized knowledge in accordance with the international standards of operating car terminals, thereby ensuring the provision of high quality services.</p> <p>The area is fully secured and operated under the ISPS code of guarding. The underground car parking of PPA SA at Karaiskaki Square has a capacity of 700 slots, located in the center of the passenger port of Piraeus and serves all domestic routes, while located about 200 meters from both the railway station and the shopping center. The Piraeus Port Authority to serve the general cargo goods transported by truck T.I.R. lorries, as well as those moving to containers, but also train wagons, special features Terminal with warehouse complex at Keratsini of Piraeus (former ODDY area).

The competitive advantages of the Logistics Center of PPA are:

• The link facility space of warehouses with the National road network, whether the Nat. Road Athens - Corinth and consequently the Nat. Highway Corinth - Patras, either Nat. Road Athens - Lamia, able to facilitate all the business project forwarding.

• The ease of connection with the urban fabric of the whole of Attica through avenues Andreas Papandreou (from Piraeus to Keratsini), Republic (from Piraeus to Perama), Salamis - P.Ralli (from Keratsini to Nice), Gr. (From Keratsini up nat. Road Athens - Lamia) Schistou (from Keratsini to nat. Road Athens - Corinth) capability that facilitates the work and cost of receivers - importers in terms of rapid delivery and / or distribution of the goods to processors and / and retail sale of Attica.

• The comfort and traffic safety within the area of warehouses due to the large outdoor fenced the area, able to facilitate the work of TIR drivers.

• The ease of transport, storage and distribution of goods coming from or destined for ships, railway or airport, enhancing capabilities combined transport and intermodal transport chain, as well as reduce the time and cost of imports and exports.

• The direct vicinity of the Customs Services, G.CH.K., S.Y.K.E. etc., able to facilitate the work of customs officers and customs agents, and also reduces the time and costs of customs procedures and receive of goods.

The new Management of PPA has already included in the investment program of the company converting Warehouse complex in modern Logistics Center, with a budget of 30 million euros.

 

 

 

 

The PPA warehouses complex located within the fenced land area of 86.402 m2 with a perimeter of 1.157 m. at Keratsini of Piraeus (former ODDY area) and consists of:

• Warehouse C-3 (imported goods), which has a covered space of 5,480 sq.m.

• Warehouse C-5 (imported goods), which has a covered space of 2,250 sq.m.

• Warehouse C-8 (unclaimed goods, which has a covered space of 1,645 sq.m.

• the Export Warehouse, which has a covered space of 162 sq.m.

The new PPA’s administration has already programmed the creation of a modern Logistics Warehouse of 47.500 sq.m. The first part of this Warehouse will be constructed during 2018 and has a covered space 15,000 sq.m.

 

 

 

 

1. SERVICES PROVIDED

At the PPA Logistics Center, in the former ODDY area in Keratsini, the following services are provided:

Unloading of TIR trucks
It concerns the unloading of international transportation trucks carrying general cargo to be imported under an international transit system (TIR Convention). It includes the entrance of the trucks in the temporary storage area of the PPA Warehouses, the partial or total unloading of the contents, the control, the receipt and the import into the warehouse.

Emptying of containers
It concerns the emptying of containers carrying general cargo goods. It includes the partial or total unloading of the contents of the container that is taken into the temporary storage site of the Warehouses, its inspection, receipt and import into the Warehouse.

Put away and storage of goods
It concerns the storage of general cargo goods in the warehouses of PPA depending on the declared content, packaging, volume, weight, value, specific requirements of temperature conditions, etc. It includes the transfer of goods to the temporary and subsequently selected storage area, the direct detection and recovery process and the preparation for delivery.

Classification of goods
It concerns the placement of goods in the warehouses on the basis of additional criteria set by the customer.

Sorting out of goods
It concerns the selection of specific goods from the place of temporary storage or storage to customs clearance or delivery (loading).

Displacement of goods
It concerns the movement of goods from a warehouse to a warehouse, or from a place to a place within the premises of PPA.

Order Picking
It concerns the collecting and executing a delivery order, checking, transferring the goods from the storage area of the warehouse to the place of delivery. It concerns also the selection of specific goods from the place of temporary storage or storage to customs clearance or delivery (loading).

Goods delivery
It concerns the loading of general cargo to the recipient. It includes transferring the goods from the storage area of the warehouse to the place of delivery and loading them on the means of transport of the consignee.

Immediate delivery of goods
It concerns the delivery of the goods directly to the same or another means of transport of the recipient (cross-docking) without having to placement of it at the PPA’s places.

Transshipment of goods
It concerns the unloading of the goods from a means of transport (eg a TIR lorry) and their loading on another means of transport (eg Container).

Goods in transit
It concerns the unloading of the goods from a means of transport (TIR or Container) from abroad and their loading on another means of transport (TIR or Container) destined for abroad.

Filling of containers
It includes collecting and executing an order for the delivery of goods to abroad, checking them, transferring them from the warehouse storing place to the place of delivery and loading them in an empty container.

For the provision of all above services to general cargo, PPA has:

• Storage areas housed and open-air.
• Special equipment (lifting equipment, forklifts, tools, appliances, pallets, etc.,
• Experienced staff of warehouse employees, machine operators, workers, etc.
• Special warehouse management software, registration, pricing, etc. of the goods traded, interconnected directly with the competent Customs Office.
• Trucks parking and service facilities.
• Road lighting and water and sewerage networks.
• Telecommunication and IT network.
• Guardians and security systems.
• Repair and maintenance of equipment.
• Clean and direct removal of solid waste.
• Insurance of buildings and facilities, as well as civil liability insurance.

At the premises of PPA, special hazardous goods or wastes are not unloading and not stored.

 

 

 

 

Piraeus Port Authority SA (PPA SA) was first certified by Lloyd’s Register (LR) to the internationally recognised quality management system ISO 9001 and environment management system ISO 14001 in 2013 for the provision of Port Cruise Services. In 2018, the certification scope was extended to cover the provision of Port, Ferry, Ro-Ro and Container Terminal Services as well as the Management of Logistics centre and the management of port construction and maintenance projects. In 2020, the scope of certification was extended again to include a number of additional key activities with regards to the Ship Repair activities and the management of co-funded projects, such as the Cruise South Expansion Project.

With this last extension of certification’s scope, PPA has achieved the certification as per ISO 9001:2015 & ISO 14001:2015 for all its activities:

  • Provision of Port Cruise, Ferry, Ro-Ro and Container Terminal Services.
  • Management of Logistics center.
  • Provision of Dry Docking Services for the Repair of Vessels ( Two (2) Graving Docks at Akti Vasiliadi and three (3) Floating Docks at Perama Ship Repair Zone) and sub-concessions of berthing posts and land space for the repair of vessels (Perama Ship Repair Zone, Drapetsona Pier, DEI Pier).
  • Port construction and maintenance projects management.
  • Management for the Implementation of co-funded projects characterized as Public ones:

-       Technical Infrastructure Works,

-       Procurement contracts andServices.

Also, in 2020, PPA SA achieved its initial certification as per ISO 50001:2018 standard for its energy management for all its activities.

Through the Integrated Quality, Environmental & Energy Management System that is applied in line with the standards requirements, PPA SA works in a consistent way to understand customers’ needs and expectations, continually improve the level of services provided, address the environmental challenges emerged in daily operation and improve the energy performance.

According to PPA Quality - Environmental - Energy Policy the company is committed to improving the quality of the provided services, the environmental and energy performance and setting quality, environmental & energy objectives to address risks and opportunities, significant environmental aspects and significant energy uses. These objectives are continuously monitored and reviewed.

PPA SA has adopted new processes and procedures for considering energy performance improvement opportunities during the design of new facilities and activities, the upgrade of current facilities and the renewal and upgrade of equipment according to its Masterplan. Risks and opportunities are defined through systematic analysis of internal and external issues. Significant environmental aspects are defined through assessment of the impact port activities pose or may pose to the environment. Significant energy uses are defined through Annual Energy Reviews.

Within each year, Management Reviews are performed by the Top Management in order to assess the effectiveness of the Integrated Quality, Environmental & Energy Management System through the achievement of objectives and to decide on any corrective actions needed to ensure continual improvement.

In this framework, also internal and external auditors perform regular audits in order to evidence compliance and conformance with the standards requirements and the effectiveness of actions.

At the same time, PPA SA through the certification according to these three (3) standards also contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals

For loading and unloading of goods PPA has all required special equipment (forklifts, lifting machines, etc.) and experienced staff.

For temporary storage of goods PPA keep their accounting records and rules and in the warehouses are available cleared areas depending on the type of goods.

To monitor the throughput of goods special computerized system is used, which is in direct connection with the Customs (ICISnet). Goods moving within the warehouses are under Customs temporary storage.

For the convenience of officials of the Customs is available within the warehouse bays customs control and verification procedures.

For security storage of goods available, apart from the necessary human resources, and monitoring equipment (cameras cctv etc) of the area of warehouses in 24 hours base.

For the safety of the goods they have taken all the prescribed fire-fighting measures. In case of damage to the PPA liability provided compensation from liability insurance contract.

For the convenience of customs representatives (customs agents) reserved space for the bungalows - office, adjacent to the offices of supervisor Second Customs Import - Export, which are in the same area and found the warehouse complex.

Nearby are the offices and other public services, the Port Police, the phytopathological - veterinary control, the fire brigade, the General Chemical State Laboratory, etc., as well as offices of the PPA Services.

To serve the international transport truck drivers (TIR) allocated separate areas comfortable and safe parking.

For the convenience of personal transport companies special cabins available within the area is and warehouse complex.

For the convenience of recipients and their means of transport available the required equipment (forklifts etc.), as well as the possibility to use special ramps loading of their merchandise.

The handling and storage of goods tariffs are among the lowest in the market and apply to all customers of the company, observing the principles of transparency, proportionality, equal treatment and non-discrimination. The request should be sent by e-mail until 06.00 on the morning of the same day you wish to be served if it is a morning shift, or until 13.00 noon the same day you wish to service if it is the afternoon shift . The working hours of the PPA’s Logistics Center for the entry and exit of international transport TIR trucks during working days are on Monday to Thursday from 06.30 to 19.30 and Friday is from 06.30 to 21.00.

The working hours of the PPA’s Warehouses (morning shift) for unloading - loading of general cargo during working days are from 07.00 'to 15.00'. The afternoon shift for unloading goods is from 15.00 'to 22.00'.

The working hours of transactions with PPA’s Cash, for the goods service of general cargo, during working days, are from 07.00 'to 14.30'.

Piraeus is the largest port in Europe and one of the largest in the world concerning passenger traffic. It has a throughput volume of about 20 million passengers per annum (including the ferry traffic Salamis – Perama, which has a throughput volume of about 8 million passengers per year). It is the main link between the mainland and the Aegean islands and Crete, while also being the main sea gate of the European Union at its southeastern edge.
