The President of the Hellenic Parliament visited the headquarters of PPA S.A.

 

The President of the Hellenic Parliament Mr. Nikolaos Voutsis made an official visit on Friday 28th September 2018, after the invitation of the CEO Capt. Fu Chengqiu, at the headquarters of PPA S.A. and had an information meeting with Capt. Fu Chengqiu, in the presence of Ms. Zhang Qiyue, Chinese Ambassador to our country and senior executives of the Company's Management. The visit was also attended by the Secretary General for Ports, Port Policy and Maritime Investments, Mr. Christos Lambridis.

The President of the Parliament and his partners visited the business units of the port of Piraeus and were informed about the projects that have been carried out in recent years and have boosted Piraeus port at the 7th place between the European commercial ports and the 37th place worldwide in Lloyd's List Maritime Intelligence, as the fastest growing port in the world. It was also highlighted the crucial role of Piraeus due to its strategic position on the Maritime Silk Road.

During the meeting, a constructive exchange of views took place regarding the challenges that the port of Piraeus is facing in order to become the most important port of the Mediterranean and to contribute even more to the development of the local and national economy.

As the President of the Parliament stated: “The investment of COSCO SHIPPING in the port of Piraeus has proved to be mutually beneficial to both sides and it is important that it become in a difficult period, helping the country to overcome the crisis. I am sure that through the dialogue all the pending issues will be overcome, so that the next investments of the Concession Agreement will progress on time with broad consensus of all institutions".

Finally, during the discussion, the President of the Greek Parliament pointed out the need of the company to participate in the preparatory work started after the end of memoranda, to form a framework of guarantees for labor rights in our country through collective agreements, highlighting that: "the dialogue with employees and trade unions, as well as the effort to bridge potential differences and improve working conditions, is the key to labor peace and harmonious coexistence".

The Chinese Ambassador to our country Ms. Zhang Qiyue described the port of Piraeus as "a model of cooperation between Greece and China" and the Secretary General for Ports, Port Policy and Maritime Investments Mr. Christos Lambridis, pointed out that investments at the port of Piraeus are of strategic importance for the country.
